Of all the water sporting activities, surfing is the most internationally acclaimed and locally favorited one among all. The climatic and weather conditions, along with the geographical setups allow for the formation of very favorable waves and ocean current conditions that make for superb surfing breaks. Surfing superstars and authorities hold the Maldivian waters in high regard, and regional tournaments have been hosted here as well. While getting to most of the destinations require boats and ferries, the trip is all but worth it. Here are some of the many acclaimed surfing spots scattered throughout the Maldives.

Male’ Atoll: The ease of access to the capital city Male’ is an added advantage, as long as one does not mind the possibility of crowding, due to the many resorts around. Some spots here include Chickens, Cokes, Guru’s, Honky’s, Riptides, Pasta Point and Sultans. The prime summer months ranging from April to October are the prime season times here, making it for excellent summer surfing.

Central Atolls: Prime season here is from June till September. Tougher waves can be found here, and plenty of world class breaks are acknowledged here by surfers, particularly right handers. Spots here include Muli, Veyvah, Adonis, Finnimas, Malik’s, Mahibadhoo and Yin Yang.

South Atolls: Housing large waves, even considering the “smaller” ones, the South Atoll points are among the most remote surfing spots on Earth, and requires extensive travelling to reach. Even so, for the born-to-be-surfers, this is it. Peak season here is more extended than the other regions as well, between February and November. Notable break points here include Beacons, Love Charms, Castaways, Rockets, Gaukendi Bridge and Shangri-La.
